Growth funding requires strong communication

Read the summary

Although uncertainty in the global economy has recently rained down on us in torrents, it has not deterred the development of outstanding Finnish companies or the need to finance innovation and sustainable growth. Financing is needed regardless of economic conditions. The need for high-quality and clear communication is particularly important during periods of change in corporate development, when bringing innovations to market, and when weighing funding options for growth.

Company management knows its own business, products, and services, but how is the company perceived from the outside by those offering growth financing? How can the strategy and vision be turned into a narrative? What is unique about the company’s expertise and business model? Why would investors be interested in the company? What are the company’s competitive advantages? And what about its growth potential?

Trust in the company is built through systematic, continuous communication that provides a concise, reliable, and relevant narrative of the company’s business operations. Effective communication, built on real strengths, grows alongside the company and can even be a prerequisite for further growth, as financiers and investors need information to support their decision-making to find unpolished diamonds. The equity story plays a key role in investor communications—it is a tool that builds a connection with investors and guides expectations beyond the next quarter. A successful equity story tells shareholders and the capital markets where the company is headed and why it is a good long-term investment. An equity story communicated over the long term can be crucial to the company’s future growth plans, and it should be built already when the company is in its early stages. As the company grows and evolves, so does the story. When the equity story has been built and communicated consistently and systematically over the long term, a foundation of trust among investors and financiers already exists when a potential need for financing arises.

Think it over:

  1. How does your company look from an outsider’s perspective?
  2. Does your narrative align with your vision of where your company is headed?
  3. Is your company’s communication consistent and accessible?
  4. Does your organization share the same vision of your company’s recipe for success?
